Make This Trip Unique

There is a noted absence of backcountry huts or lodges in the Northwest. With our abundant snowfall and often times difficult access, an extended ski trip into the backcountry makes perfect sense. The trick is doing it in comfort.

The Barron Yurt is just north of Harts' Pass and provides some incredible touring with all the creature comforts of a backcountry hut. The views of the North Cascades from this area are much different from those around Washington Pass and afford a unique perspective on many of the peaks in North Cascades National Park.

Gear & Equipment

We strongly recommend that you bring a modern ski touring setup. If you have questions about your current gear, give us a call and we can make some recommendations. If you know your current gear is dated, the Goat’s Beard Mountain Supplies in Mazama rents high quality touring gear, including split boards. For the flight, we recommend organizing your gear like this:

  • A day pack (~30L) that is packed with all your ski touring gear (skins, goggles, extra layers, etc.) Fully loaded for the trip this pack should weigh no more than 20 lbs.
  • A small duffel bag (~40L) that has all your overnight gear. This bag MUST be small and light. It must not have wheels, a frame of any kind or any rigid parts. Please pack light!
  • Your sleeping bag in a compression stuff sack
