During winter the Methow Valley is isolated and remote after Washington Pass closes due to the tremendous amount of snow that makes it impassable. Getting here takes some planning, but once you're here you'll immediately realize the little bit of extra effort was well worth it.
We’re based in the Heli Barn at 31 Early Winters Dr, Mazama, Wash., on the Wilson Ranch adjacent to the Freestone Inn & Cabins, 1.5 miles west of the Mazama Junction off Highway 20.
Highway 20/Washington Pass is closed from the west during our season, so the only winter access to Mazama is via Winthrop. From Winthrop drive 15 miles west on Highway 20 and turn left at the Freestone Inn sign then follow the signs to the Heli Barn. Approximate driving times to Mazama are five hours from Seattle, four hours from Spokane, three hours from Wenatchee and seven hours from Portland depending on weather and road conditions.
If flying to Washington State, consider flying to either Spokane or Wenatchee and renting a vehicle (4x4 recommended) to avoid driving over the major passes. For current pass and road conditions call 1-800-695-7623 or check www.wsdot.wa.gov.
Driving directions from Winthrop: From Winthrop, follow the signs to Mazama on SR-20. The Freestone Inn is located 1.5 miles west of the Mazama Junction. The Heli Barn is located on the cabin loop, just past the Inn proper.
Arriving via Wenatchee by air: For guests arriving on commercial airlines, frequent flights connect Seattle with Wenatchee.
Arriving via Winthrop/Twisp by air: Air transportation to the Winthrop/Twisp area is available from Catlin Flying Services, telephone 509 997 4602, toll free 1 866 445 2359.
Private planes: For clients wishing to fly their own planes we recommend landing at the Winthrop Airport.
Ground transportation is available to the Methow Valley and our base at the Wilson Ranch/Freestone Inn from the Seattle, Wenatchee or the Winthrop airports through Methow Motion (Reservations recommended).
